About Melbourne English

Where other schools fit students into a class, at Melbourne English we create the class that works for you. Each small class is diverse, friendly and sensitive to cultural needs. Our excellent teachers speak many languages and have lived in many cultures.

Centrally located in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most popular student and tourist districts, Melbourne English is the best place to learn—and the best place to grow.

BA Joint Hons. French and Drama (London University), Trinity Cert TESOL, Cambridge Dip ELT (DELTA), Masters of Education (Melbourne University), CELTA Tutor and Cambridge CELTA Assessor, DELTA Local Tutor and Cambridge DELTA Assessor.

I have over 23 years experience as an ESL teacher and teacher educator. I have coordinated and delivered teacher training programmes for local and overseas teachers in Australia (primary, secondary and tertiary level) and Europe. I have also run teacher training courses in the UK, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, and have taught ESL in France, Crete, Spain, Brazil, UK (Scotland and England). In Brazil, England and Austria I worked with business executives and lecturers to improve their communication skills. In England I specialised in running exam courses such as IELTS and CAE.

Coming from a theatre background, I enjoy seeing how techniques used in drama translate into the ESL classroom. As someone who is constantly trying to improve my pronunciation in other languages, I am interested in developing techniques to help improve students’ pronunciation in English. Recently, I have been working on the development of online learning programs.

Cambridge University CELTA, Trinity College Diploma in TESOL, Master of Education (Melbourne University), Post graduate Certificate in Career Development (Auckland University of Technology), Diploma of Education (Teacher’s College of Aotearoa).

I have 25 years of experience teaching in a variety of contexts, from teaching young learners to teaching general English, academic and exam classes to international students and literacy to adults. Along with my teaching career I have now had 13 years of teacher training experience, which has taken me to the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand and now Australia.

Training teachers is both challenging and rewarding. I love getting to know each individual, and being a part of helping each person to achieve their goals. I enjoy helping teachers understand grammar and become more student centred and effective. Recently I have developed a teaching model based on using discussions to develop better thinking and language for academic purposes. I am also an experienced IELTS and OET tutor.
